ISA Spring Recap

Hi! My name is Mira, and I am a sophomore studying industrial and systems engineering with a minor in applied analytics. I will be sharing a recap of my spring semester as an ISA intern!

A bit of my background, I was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia. So coming to USC during my fall 2021 semester was my first time living in another country outside of Indonesia. At first, I was nervous about being in a new environment, but at the same time, I was excited to meet new people and be involved in multiple student organizations at USC. So, I decided to apply as an ISA intern to get to know the ISA community and be more involved in executing ISA events for both international and domestic students at USC.

One of my favorite ISA events during the spring semester was ISA's E-board and Intern retreat. We got to grab take-out lunch from restaurants near USC and play games together. It was a relaxing and fun time getting to know the ISA e-board and interns outside of our general meetings and seeing everyone strategize when playing multiple rounds of a game called Mafia.

One of ISA's more significant events in the spring semester would be Globefest. Globefest is a three-day event that consists of Karaoke Night, Quad Night, and Movie Night. As an intern shadowing ISA's Programming chair, I was primarily involved with the planning and execution of Quad Night. As part of my tasks as an intern, I experienced filing paperwork, contacted external vendors, and assigned shifts to ISA interns and e-board members to facilitate the Quad Night event. After planning Quad Night from beginning to end, it was rewarding to see everyone come to our event to enjoy eating delicious food and making arts and crafts. I also enjoyed Globefest's movie night as I remember on that day, I had just finished a midterm exam, so being able to eat popcorn while watching a Netflix international film called "Okta" on the Village's Lawn was a very calming experience.

Lastly, a notable ISA event that I attended was a Travel with ISA event to watch a live basketball game. I enjoy watching basketball games in general, so I was thrilled knowing that I could get a free ticket to watch my first NBA game. The crowd's high energy and hearing the majority of the audience cheer on the LA Clippers team to beat the New Orleans Pelicans team was very exhilarating.
I recommend everyone join ISA, whether through applying to be an ISA intern, ISA board, or participating in our events, because ISA is open to all international and domestic students at USC.
