ISA Doesn’t Disappoint

Hello all! I’m Daniel Aung and I’m currently a sophomore studying business and real estate. I’m also an intern for the ISA at USC. Being born and raised in Myanmar, I did not grow up around a lot of diversity. So meeting a lot of different people from different cultures was a goal of mine once I got to college.

During my Covid semester, I was not involved in anything on campus. And once I got to campus, I was going to take things slow and just chill. However, a last-minute decision and encouragement from a friend made me send in my application 15 minutes before the deadline. That spontaneous decision came in so clutch because it really made my first in-person semester to be better than I could ask for.

But let me tell you why you should consider joining the ISA:

A.The people within ISA

My intern class and the e-board of ISA have turned out to be amazing friends that I made throughout my first in-person semester at USC. I did not expect to become this close with all these people because I thought the organization was more professional than social but it turned out to be a perfect balance of both. I also met a lot of people from different cultures that I otherwise would not be in contact with.

B.Fun Events

Being an ISA intern comes with a lot of responsibilities as well as perks. Through all the kickbacks, retreats, coffee and donuts, and even the roses and thorn weekly catchups, a lot of friendship bonds were formed. These events resulted in a more tight-knit community where we would meet up even outside of organization-related events to just hang out. We would also get priority to the events that we are planning such as the Yes Theory speaker event or the InFusion event with the anime food truck.

C.Experience

The experience you would gain here will also carry through to other involvements. I shadowed the chair of programming and it really helped give me experience regarding event planning that is useful for me in other organizations as well as in school. On top of that, working together with people you enjoy being around makes the work you do in the ISA painless and enjoyable.

I can’t fully describe how enriching the ISA intern experience has been for me so you need to try it out yourself to find out.
