ISA Family
Hi everyone! My name is Akito Miura, and I’m a freshman studying Business Administration at USC. I’m currently an intern at ISA, and I’m really excited to share my experience being part of the ISA family in this post!
A little bit about myself, I was born in Tokyo, Japan. But I only lived there for seven years, as my family moved a lot due to my father’s job. Before coming to USC, I lived in Shanghai, Tokyo, New York, and Madrid. Being an international student for more than half of my life, I was immediately intrigued by the idea of joining ISA. I wanted to meet other international students coming from a similar background while helping the international community at USC. I thought joining ISA would be a great decision, and I was right!
The name “International Student Assembly” might sound a bit scary for some people. Before joining ISA, I was afraid the organization was all about debating and conferences on international student matters, like a student government type of thing. But no worries! While we are under USG and we do represent the international community, ISA is a very close-knit group with a lot of fun!
My favorite part of ISA is undoubtedly the events. Every year, ISA hosts a wide range of fun, amazing events such as Global Trivia Night (jeopardy on world trivia with cool prizes!), speaker’s event (this year we invited Yes Theory!), and InFusion (food trucks!). As an intern, I helped plan these events, and it was fun watching these events being built from scratch. With big events like these, it does take a lot of work and effort, but I enjoyed every bit of the “building” process. It’s really rewarding when the events turn out to be a huge success, with many fellow students smiling and laughing.
As an ISA intern, I have had so much fun while also growing as a person. In addition to event planning, I shadowed as a Chair of Operations and helped order the ISA t-shirts, something I had never done in my life before. ISA constantly provides you with new challenges and experiences but with a warm support. The ISA family would always be there for you, helping you reach the next step!
